Science & Social Studies Social Studies: Did you know that the Mountain States led the country in the fight for women’s suffrage? Did you know that mining and tourism are two major industries in the region? Your students do! We learned many interesting facts about the history and economy of the Mountain States. The Chapter 11 test is scheduled for Thursday of next week. Science: We have concluded our exploration of Electricity and Magnetism. The students have thoroughly enjoyed the labs for this chapter. This week, they created an electromagnet using wire, a battery and a bolt. We also conducted informal experiments with magnets. On Friday, the students took the chapter test. They will be included in next week’s packet.
ReligionJesus gave us the Beatitudes to help us find true happiness. In chapter 21 we focused on the first Beatitude, “Happy are the Poor in Spirit”. The children learned that being poor in spirit means to depend on God. We must be grateful and satisfied with all that God has given us. We can follow the example of St. Francis, God’s Little Poor Man, by doing with less in order to share with the poor and suffering people of our community. Language ArtsEnglish: We have worked hard on adjectives and adverbs. Since students were having difficulty, we took more time to practice and correct our mistakes in order to learn from them. Our test will be Tuesday. We then move on to prepositions and phrases. Reading: We read a biography story on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as told by his older sister called, My Brother Martin. We also used this and a story about Rosa Parks to find cause/effect relationships. Reminders
Math4A: We have ventured into the land of solids, planes, symmetry and transformations! At long last, a break from place value, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals! Each student received a new purple notebook to record the fascinating details of his or her journey. 4B: We have completed our sections on measurement. We changed units of length, capacity, and weight to equivalent units and compared measures. Next week we will review and our Chapter 10 test will be Wednesday.
