Introduction
|
|
The Internet provides many resources to your students which would
otherwise be unattainable. By devising research projects that require
the students to form an opinion or draw conclusions can increase
critical thinking skills. Group projects work well with the WWW. The
group members can be classmates but you can can foster diversity by
including students from other schools, communities or even countries.
This practice will help develop communication skills.
It is important for the educator/parent to understand not only the positive potential of the Internet as a curriculum aid but to also be aware of the dark side of this resource. Anyone can voice their opinions, share their ideas, demonstrate new technologies, publish software applications, and connect with others. This leaves the door wide open for opportunities of mischief, obscenity, vulgarity, and even danger. We will explore various methods to keep our students, as well as our school network, safe while utilizing the rewarding potentials of the Internet. These methods include: Acceptable Usage Policies Firewall and Filtering Software Evaluation of Web Resources Plagiarism-Citation Parent Involvement Teachers as Role Models |
