Reading: We are completing Unit 5. Drawing Conclusions, Fact & Opinion, Plot & Theme, Sequencing and Compare and Contrast have been emphasized in these stories and will be tested. In Phonics, we have been working on ten syllabication rules that can help with decoding and spelling.
Mathematics: Multiplication was begun at the beginning of January. Since then the class has gone through all of the basic Multiplication facts and all of the basic Division facts. They have learned to use multiplication by multiplying 2 digits by 1. And they have learned Long Division. We are still using these Multiplication facts as they are related to fractions! All Math facts should be practiced regularly. Handwriting: All assignments done on control paper should be done in cursive. Handwriting is assessed to the following areas: alignment, slant, shape and spacing. English: We are now studying pronouns. Paragraph writing will be practiced by doing a Persuasive paragraph. Good sentence structure, which was learned earlier, is emphasized in all areas of the curriculum. Science: If you have been having trouble with your doorbell recently, your Third Grader may be able to help. They have learned about electric circuits in Science, and were able to do some experimenting with The Discovery Museum's presentation! Social Studies: We have recently learned about local, state and federal governments. Thank-you to Mrs. Petersen who came to talk to the class about citizenship! Religion: As we learn about Jesus life, death and resurrection, and the wonderful benefits we now have, we are also learning how the mysteries of the rosary are connected and memorizing them as part of our Catholic heritage and tradition. Welcome to 3A
