St. Thomas the Apostle School

Section 1: Cell Structure

This section talks about the differences between animal and plant cells . For example, plants go through a process called photosynthesis while animal cells do not. Photosynthesis is very important on human nature. In this process, plants give off oxygen which humans breathe in. At the same time, humans exhale carbon dioxide which plants need to survive.

Chapter 2: Cells

Section 2:  Viewing Cells

This section informed us on how scientists are able to view tiny, microscopic cells. The answer is simple: it’s because of microscopes. The different kinds of microscopes are modern microscopes, and electron microscopes. The section concludes with the cell theory. This states that cells divide to form new cells.

Section 3: Viruses

This section taught us about active and latent viruses. When a virus is active, it causes the host cell (cell that copies itself) to make new viruses. When a virus is latent, its hereditary material can become part of the cell’s hereditary material.
