Carbohydrates provide energy, proteins are needed for growth and repair, and fats store energy and cushion organs.

Section 2: The Digestive System

1.)Mechanical Digestion breaks down food through chewing and churning

2.)Digestion breaks down food into substances that cells can absorb and use. Carbohydrates break down into simpler sugars; proteins into amino acids; and fats into fatty acids and glycerol.

3.)The large intestine absorbs water, which helps the body maintain homeostasis.
