DISCIPLINE POLICIES~

One of the many roles of a preschool teacher is to help the children grow in self-discipline and self-control.  We use redirection as a means of calming the child down and removing them from a situation if inappropriate behavior is displayed.  We feel parent communication is important.  If the behavior does continues, we would notify the parent for further discussion.

If inappropriate behavior is displayed the teacher would...

  1. Speak with child to discuss behavior and redirect child.

  2. If behavior continues, the teacher would speak with the parent or guardian to develop an individual plan for behavior.

  3. If behavior continues, we may use a time out for some thinking time - no more than a minute.

  4. If continued, the parents and teacher would need to discuss whether it is in the best interest of the child and whole class for continued participation in class.

EVALUATIONS~

A progress report will be sent out twice a year - January and May.  We will also have conferences with the parents in January.  If you ever have any concerns about your child, please contact your child's teacher.  The teachers would also contact you if they feel they have any concerns.

It is important to remember that we are an extension of St. Thomas the Apostle school.  Many of the policies and procedures listed in the school handbook will apply to the preschool program.
