A TYPICAL DAY FOR A PRESCHOOLER~

  • Group Time: A time for sharing information, show and tell,  calendar time, weather discussion and a short group language arts/phonics learning time.

  • Table Time:  Activities that provide fine motor skill practice with games, puzzles, toys, literacy areas, dramatic play, science, social studies, math activities, and special projects.

  • Clean up Time:  Cooperating as a group.

  • Religion:  Time to learn all about Jesus through Bible Stories, songs and Catholic prayers.

  • Story, Music, and Art Time:  Following directions, listening, memory skills and art projects for all to do.

  • Snack:  Healthy opportunities to try new foods.

  • Large Motor:  Group games, outside equipment play (weather permitting) and organized activities.

SHOW AND TELL~

An important part of a preschooler's development is to feel comfortable expressing himself/herself with his or her peers.  It helps foster language growth and listening skills.

Show and Tell items should follow the theme or letter of the week.  Parents should help their child decide on an appropriate item to share.  Each teacher will discuss the days show and tell will be for their individual classroom.

 BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS ~

Your child may bring in a commercially made, pre-packaged treat to share or send home with classmates.  We ask that you do not send invitations to school unless you are inviting the whole class.

 SNACKS~

Snacks are served every day.  We ask that parents help with this program by bringing a commercial made, prepackaged, nutritious snack for a week at a time.  We are asking, due to possible allergies, that your snack be nut free.  We also ask that you provide the juice or milk for week as well.  We will rotate through the class list and then start over again.  The school will provide napkins and cups.

  DRESS~

Your child will be involved in many different activities throughout the year so we ask that your child come dressed in comfortable clothes.  Shoes should be closed toe and have a back on them.  We prefer gym shoes or comfortable, sturdy shoes.  Please also remember that whenever the weather permits, we will go outside for a short playtime, so please dress your child for the weather including hats and gloves when it is cold.

EMERGENCY CLOSINGS~

If St. Thomas the Apostle school is closed due to weather or any other reason, we will also be closed.  St. Thomas is registered with Emergency Closing Center. See the school handbook for information as to how to find out if the school is closed.
