Second Grade Announcements

NEWS from 2A2B
February, 2008
Busy Days!
This year is racing by! The Second Graders are really working hard. They have so much to accomplish before they are ready for third grade. The third quarter is always a very productive one.
Math Update:
Regrouping is the big news in Math. The children are in the process of learning to do two-digit addition and subtraction with and without regrouping. They need lots of practice!
Most of the children need to learn the basic addition and subtraction facts. If your child doesn’t know these facts, please see that he/she uses flash cards regularly.
We will be working on telling time next month. Our curriculum also includes elapsed time and how long it takes to do things.
Language Arts:
We work on Spelling, Phonics, Reading, and Writing every day. We have seen growth in all these areas. Some children have a difficult time spelling words correctly in their written work. They seem to have a hard time remembering the spelling words after the day of the test.
Perhaps they can review the past list words too.
Your child needs to read every day. For those who aren’t fluent readers yet, they should also be reading aloud daily.
Religion Curriculum:
Second Grade Religion is such a pleasure to teach! The children are learning so much! At this time of the year we focus on the parts of the Mass which helps us to prepare for First Communion. We also teach about Lent and the Stations of the Cross.
Dates to Remember:
March 5 – “Own It” program for grades K-4.
March 18 – Second grade is preparing the Tuesday liturgy.
March 20 - Second grade is re-enacting the Last Supper.
