This is my sixth year teaching Second Grade at St. Thomas School. I love teaching and I feel very fortunate to be here. I strongly believe in Catholic education and I know that God guided me to St. Thomas School five years ago. In June, 2003, my husband, Joe, and I relocated to Illinois after living in the San Francisco Bay Area for 21 years. While in California, I taught Kindergarten, Second Grade, and Junior High for the Oakland Diocese. My husband and I were born and raised in Illinois so relocating to Illinois was actually coming home. Our hearts are now in both Illinois and California. Our two older children, Joe and Jessy, live and work in the Los Angeles area. Our youngest daughter, Stephanie, and her husband moved to Illinois in April, 2003. Joe and I knew that we couldn’t be separated from our grandchildren so we came, too. We now have one granddaughter and four grandsons. Our two oldest grandchildren are attending St. Thomas School this year. Jessica is in 7th grade and Artie is in 2nd grade. They have two little brothers, Kevin, 3 and Patrick who is 2 ½ months. Their mother works full-time and she is finishing college this year. By June, Stephanie will have her Early Childhood teaching certificate. Our daughter, Jessy, gave us our first California grandson last December. Michael was 9 weeks early but he seems to be catching up very quickly. He is a full-time job for Jessy these days. My philosophy in education is to follow the curriculum guidelines in academic areas in such a manner that children want to learn and can be successful in the classroom. This may be through working in Literacy Stations, writing answers on their whiteboards, or playing a game, etc. As your child’s teacher, I promise you that I will always treat your child with love and respect; just as I wanted my children to be treated and how I now want my grandchildren to be treated.
