Second Grade Curriculum
The children learn that we are all part of God’s family, and that God gave us Jesus to teach us how to live. After that, the primary focus is on the sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist, while learning the Act of Contrition.
The four main areas are reading, writing, speaking and listening, along with spelling and handwriting. Specific areas in reading are comprehension, decoding, phonics and fluency.
The main focus is regrouping with addition and subtraction, reviewing and mastering facts to 18, and solving word problems. Units on time, money and measurement are also studied.
The basic theme is neighborhoods and communities, as well as discussions and activities about the seasons, American holidays, etc. The students are also involved in researching a specific state in the United States.
The curriculum includes the study of dinosaurs, the earth, the human body, and good health. In each unit, there are projects, videos, and activities.
